I stood like this for days, once. The artist was trying to capture the drape of the cloth, and the play of form and light. He never really got as far as filling in any details of the figure, he had been so obsessed with capturing the folds just so, that he ended up scrapping the painting after about three days. It was so hard to watch the intense concentration and frustration.
